Project management has, for decades, been the method by which companies and governments have used to bring together the multiple tasks associated with accomplishing one goal. Initiating, planning, executing, controlling and closing are the five elements project team members must consider to achieve the overall goal of a project. Software is a tool project teams utilize to bring together all of the tasks associated with any given project. There are three project management software tools worth mentioning. They include ClickUp, Trello and Basecamp.

ClickUP – The All-in-one App:

ClickUp is an all-in-one app that manages elements related to any project developed and designed by Zeb Evans. The app includes features such as reminders, goal-setting, scheduling and inbox functionality. ClickUp gives users the ability to break down tasks on different levels. It allows team members the ability to view activities from an individual as well as a collaborative perspective. This makes it effective for project managers to view the task of the entire team, if necessary. The software can be used with a smartphone or tablet. While ClickUp has numerous benefits, there are some challenges with the software. Users have commented that often times version updates can cause some of the features to change or completely go away and that on some occasions mobile integration can pose challenges at times.

Trello – The Visual Effect:

Trello gives more of a visual presentation of project tasks and who is responsible for each task. Using a card like format, Trello allows movement of tasks from one team member to another. Team members can easily communicate with each other within the actual software. While Trello offers ease-of-use and seamless communication, its ability to integrate with other applications can create challenges. Trello also lacks the ability for numerical computations. Maneuvering between boards can also be cumbersome.

Basecamp – Real Time:

Basecamp is another project management software that provides teams with real-time communication tools. This feature allows team members better coordination of project management tasks. The software is easy to use and set up, has great graphics and allows project managers to invite additional attendees without additional costs. The software is not intimidating for team members who are not tech savvy, thereby making it easy to navigate. On the flip side, because the user interface gives the feel of a message board, team members can inadvertently communicate on an incorrect project thread. The software lacks the ability to show team member workload, which can hinder a Project Manager’s ability to distribute tasks appropriately.

The role of project management is extremely useful in helping team members achieve a desired goal. It brings together time, money and scope. These project management software enable managers to effectively prioritize the resources needed for successful project completion.
